Have you ever thought of what would take your Church to its next level?
As a founder of a church or its assigned Pastor, you have dreams of growth, which are valid. You want to improve your Church by making it better and more effective for the mission. It can only happen when you delegate, engage, and take the appropriate steps towards growing the Church.
It is a good thing to desire an improvement; however, has the church leadership taken some time to look inwardly? Please do not misunderstand me- but sometimes, what we seek to change starts with us. It is sometimes quite challenging to see for ourselves where or how we are lacking. Everyone has to come to a point in their life where they move from desiring Change to taking the actual steps needed for that Change.
A good percentage of a church’s growth stems from the fact that the Pastor eliminates leadership barriers. Improving the ministry areas of a church has to be a conscious effort and decision on the part of the leadership and administrative staff. Once these people are open and willing to make the necessary changes, there is no limit to what God will do to grow that Church. Once you have established that willingness, move further to determine the areas of your Ministry that need improvement. While you may feel overwhelmed while examining these ministry areas, there is also a possibility that you would feel tempted to think some parts are good enough, with no need for improvements. Either way, do not fall for the trick.
Sometimes, what we need is a “beef-up” and not a makeover. The ability to recognize the difference between these two is vital for the church leadership team. If you feel you are good in a specific area, take a good look at that one first, and work on improving it because it will give you a quick win. You are doing some things right in that ministry arm; it would neither cost an arm or a leg to beef it up. You must pay careful attention to the evaluation of your Ministry. Do it constantly.
To state the obvious, every great Church can be Greater. The great pastors we all see as mentors in Ministry are still looking for ways to improve themselves. They do not think they are sufficient; they strive to be more; why should you remain enough? I am not saying we should have a perfect ministry; all I am advocating for is to make sure these ministry parts reach a place of Influence.
Here are the top three areas the Church should improve, to achieve a total win in Ministry.
-
THE HOSPITALITY/GREETERS MINISTRY
I sometimes attend different Churches to gather data on the writing pieces I produce. Whenever I get the opportunity to speak to the Pastor of the Church, they never admit to serving a cranky church. That tells me one thing- it doesn’t matter how unfriendly or friendly your members are; what matters is what you are doing to improve your protocol, ushering and greeters team, all rolled up into the Hospitality ministry. Everyone forms an opinion within the first 3 minutes of entering a church, and the impression created by your greeters and ushers shape a large percentage of that opinion. You might preach a great sermon, and the choir renders soul-lifting songs, but if an usher refuses to honor a guest’s request to show him the restroom, you may have lost a potential member.
Also, your Church needs to continue to intentionally train the members of this team to give an over-the-top welcome. If you have a parking space, train your protocol team members to make sure the cars are parked in an aligned fashion, leaving driving space for those who would like to drive out early. Show guests that you care about the very minute details.

THE WORSHIP MINISTRY
The Music session is an essential part of a guest’s decision to remain in a church or not. It is the path to God’s presence, and most people look forward to it, as we all should. What happens during this time will determine how receptive that person’s heart will be through the service. Let us face it -everyone wants to attend a church that has good music. If yours has an outstanding Music department, you already have an edge.
Most Worship Music teams already have naturally gifted people serving in different instrumental capacities or leading the Church in songs. Invest in their training. Most of these people already have dreams of being Musicians, fuel that dream, and help them grow. Get them to be better. The Church members will love their output more, and it will increase your membership.

THE CHURCH’S DIGITAL SPACE
Everyone is online these days, and every Church has a website and an account on every social media platform, yet the digital engagement is still low. Have you ever wondered why that is the case? There are too many ideas competing with these churches in the same space. Young people especially have a lot going on for them in the digital arena; if the Church must grab their attention, it must do so most strategically and appealingly possible.
Let me even ask you this- how many times have you opened your Church’s website in the last one week? Hold on to that, do not answer yet. How many times have you opened either the Facebook or the Instagram app? My guess is your response. It has become a necessity to move beyond creating a website for the Church to enhance engagement. What you need is a community-something like an app. Building applications can be exhausting and very expensive, but what if I told you I have a solution for you.
